The archipelago of Östergötland is unique with its more than 8000 islands. Cultural life in the county is dynamic and includes a county theatre and symphony orchestra.
Östergötland is the fourth largest county in Sweden – with a population of approximately 415 000. Linköping and Norrköping are the largest cities and it is possible to commute between most districts in the county. Östergötland has excellent bus, rail and air communications with other parts of Sweden, and Stockholm is about two hours away by road or rail. The Östergötland area contains several domestic and international airports.
